I would like to enter the contest for a 8 x 10 graphite portrait.  The picture is of Tami, a 25-year-old Arabian Appaloosa cross.  I am also 25-years-old.  As long as I could remember I have wanted a horse – I remember sitting in the back of the car with my mother’s purse on my lap and pretending the strap was the reins of a horse.  But like so many people I was not able to get a horse or to take lessons.  For many years I had forgotten about my dreams and went on through high school and college.  Then, one time last year I decided that I was finally going to take some riding lessons.  I was introduced to Tami and was quite apprehensive of her size, fearing what she could do to me on the ground, let alone what would happen when I got on her.  But she is the greatest horse that I could ever have asked for.  I rode her for about 6 months, then moved on to a more advanced horse.  Once while riding the more advanced horse another horse came up behind us and he took off.  I ended up falling off and injured my back and side.  I was not able to walk or move for quite a while.  After recovering physically, I was still very injured mentally.  I was not sure I could ever get back on a horse or ever trust one again.  The first horse that I went back to riding after my fall was Tami, the horse I had started with.  Now, six months later, I am leasing her.  She has put up with my fears and has calmly taken me around the ring and out on trails.  Even when another horse is acting up or running wildly, Tami will not falter or break her gait even when my heart is pounding and I am picturing falling off and being injured again.  To me is she is a priceless horse and I believe that she should have the opportunity to be captured in art.  Thank you very much!

Welcome
